Cannon Convert to FSD
11/09/09 Filed in: Product Features | Safety
Cannon range cookers are an understandably popular choice, and it seems they are ahead of the game in changing over all of their ranges and freestanding cookers to include Flame Supervision Devices (FSD) as standard, and should have completed the process by August. FSD are currently required by law only if you live in a shared building, but by March 2010 will be a requirement for all UK gas appliances. Many brands currently offer FSD as an optional upgrade, but all are likely to include them as standard before January 2010, with a consequential effect on pricing.
What are FSD?
Flame Supervision Devices cut off the gas supply should the flame become extinguished, relying on a thermostatic sensor adjacent to the burner to detect the presence of a flame. In operation, they require that the ignition button is held in for slightly longer than on non-FSD burners, to allow the sensor to work.

When it comes to ovens, on the popular dual fuel model a 50 litre automatic fanned main oven sits below a separate powerful dual circuit electric grill, and there is a second conventional oven on the right with a warming compartment below. For those who prefer cooking with gas, the all-gas Traditional 1000G and Professional 1000G models have two conventional gas ovens and an impressive 3.9kW gas grill. All ovens have heat-clean linings.

The Traditional 1000DF and 1000G are available in Cream (with satin gold handle and controls) or Anthracite (with satin chrome), and the Professional 1000DF and 1000G differ only in their stainless steel finish and slightly higher price. Currently £850 for the Traditional and £975 for the Professional, the prices really do represent excellent value, as this kind of solid feel and high specification would normally come at a higher price.

Our only reservation concerns the satin gold finish used on the Cream models, as this seems at odds with what most people are looking for at the moment but, this aside, these range cookers look great and should give many years of reliable cooking.
