Beware of Non-FSD Rangemaster
On 1st January Rangemaster ceased supplying their dual fuel or gas range cookers without flame supervision devices (FSD), which will become mandatory on all gas appliances in March 2010. Despite this, many retailers continue to sell their stock of obsolete non-FSD models, or fail to acknowledge this aspect of the products they are selling. Buying your Rangemaster range cooker from Rangecookers.co.uk means you can be confident that you will receive only the very latest model, complete with the new FSD feature. We recommend that you check that the Rangemaster products you may see on sale elsewhere are compliant with this latest technology, so that you know you are comparing like-for-like and will be getting a current cooker.
What do FSD do?
On these new Rangemaster models, each gas burner has a thermocouple sensor which detects whether a flame is present, and will shut off the gas supply if it is not. This gives you the added confidence that should your gas flame be accidentally extinguished, or a gas tap be turned on accidentally, there will be no flow of gas to worry about and your home will be safer as a result.

Background
FSD will be seen on an increasing number of products as the various manufacturers update their production schedules. Some continental products already include FSD, as this has been a requirement within most EU countries for some while. From January 2008, UK standards have sensibly required that appliances fitted into shared buildings must be fitted with FSD, so there have been some moves towards this as an optional upgrade, but from March 2010 it will not be legal to manufacture gas appliances without FSD.
