How to Style a Stainless Steel Range Cooker in Your Kitchen
There was a time when choosing a stainless steel range cooker was seen as the safe option. It was familiar, professional-looking and easy to fit into almost any kitchen. But stainless steel has moved on from simply being the sensible choice.
Used well, it can be one of the most striking finishes in the room.
Much of that comes down to how range cookers themselves have changed. Stainless steel is no longer limited to an entirely matching appliance with a purely professional feel. Contrasting trims, more decorative controls and different styling options have given it a much broader appeal, with stainless steel and brass becoming a particularly popular combination.
So, rather than thinking about stainless steel as a finish that simply 'goes with everything', it is worth considering what you actually want it to bring to the kitchen...
Why choose stainless steel?
One of the biggest advantages of stainless steel is that it gives you plenty of room to work with the rest of the kitchen.
A strongly coloured range cooker will naturally influence the palette around it, whereas stainless steel is less reactive. This can be particularly useful when the cooker is intended to stay in place for many years, as the kitchen around it can change without the appliance suddenly feeling out of place.
It also has a natural connection with cooking. Stainless steel has long been used in professional kitchens, and on a range cooker it gives the appliance a purposeful appearance that suits its size and role within the room.
That doesn't mean every stainless steel cooker looks the same. The detailing can make an enormous difference. Some models take a very clean and contemporary approach, while others use more substantial handles, traditional controls or decorative trim to create something quite different.
Stainless steel doesn't have to mean industrial
The professional kitchen influence is still there, of course. Stainless steel has a certain confidence to it, particularly on a larger range cooker, and there is something very purposeful about having that expanse of metal sitting at the centre of the kitchen.
Put the same cooker into two completely different kitchens and it can take on a very different personality. In one space it might look sharp and contemporary; in another, the stainless steel becomes a clean contrast against more traditional cabinetry.
That is where styling becomes more interesting. You don't necessarily need to soften or disguise the stainless steel, sometimes it is better to let that contrast exist.
Think about the trim
The body colour may be the first thing you notice on a range cooker, but the trim can alter its appearance just as much.
An all-stainless model has a crisp, coordinated look. Handles, controls and rails blend into the main body of the cooker, making this a good choice if you prefer something relatively understated. This also applies to a chrome trim.

A contrasting trim draws much more attention to those individual details.
Brass and stainless steel has become an especially popular combination. There is enough contrast between the two finishes for the handles and control details to stand out, while the brass takes some of the cooler edge away from the stainless steel.
It is also a useful combination for kitchens that sit somewhere between traditional and contemporary. The stainless steel keeps the cooker feeling current, while brass introduces a more decorative element without changing the main finish of the appliance.
Building the cooking area around it
Where the cooker sits within the kitchen makes a big difference to the finished result.
Ideally, a range cooker should feel properly integrated into the cabinetry rather than looking as though it has simply been placed into an available space. Having the units and worktops meet neatly at either side helps the cooker feel settled within the room while still allowing it to remain a focal point.
The space above it deserves just as much thought.
A statement hood can give the entire cooking area more presence, particularly above a wider range cooker. Alternatively, concealed extraction keeps the focus lower down and can be a good choice if the cooker already has plenty of detailing.
The splashback then becomes the backdrop to the whole area. Because stainless steel itself is relatively neutral, you have a little more freedom here. The backdrop can be kept restrained to place more attention on the cooker, or used to give the cooking zone a strong identity within the room.
Choosing the right stainless steel range cooker
Once you have settled on stainless steel, the finish becomes just one part of choosing the right model.
The width, fuel type, oven configuration and hob layout will ultimately determine how well the cooker works for you day to day. A model that looks perfect in the kitchen still needs to suit the way you actually cook.
Here are some we think you should take a look at...

It blends cooking technology with pure elegance perfectly, creating a true style statement within a kitchen. This stainless steel model with antique bronze trim is a great example of how a metallic finish can feel warm and characterful rather than overly industrial.
The stainless steel gives the cooker a clean, professional look, while the antique bronze detailing across the handles and controls adds a softer, more traditional edge.
The Panoramagic, however, takes stainless steel in a distinctly contemporary direction. Its satin stainless finish works naturally with the model's bold, architectural design, from the angled control panel to the substantial front handle and dark glass oven doors.
Available in 90cm and 120cm widths, the collection combines the statement styling with ILVE's high-spec cooking technology, making it particularly well suited to kitchens where stainless steel is being used as a deliberate design feature rather than simply practical finish.
The Bertazzoni Master series brings you a generous taste of Bertazzoni quality at a very attractive price point, with authentic and appealing Italian cafe-bar aesthetic.
The Master 100 Twin is designed to deliver exceptional versatility and precision for everyday cooking. It combines a five-zone induction hob with two electric ovens, offering a flexible and high-performance cooking setup.
Designed to recall the style of commercial kitchens, the traditional, large round metal knobs are satisfying to the touch and intuitive to use - they are designed to make it clear whether they are on or off at a glance.
The Master series handle has been designed to help you create a bold, coordinated look across every appliance in the kitchen. The ergonomic shape of the bar section sits comfortably in the hand, ideally supporting the opening and closing motion of doors.
Inside this model is a main electric oven, offering 11 cooking functions, plus a secondary oven providing additional cooking capacity. The induction hob on top includes five zones, all with booster function, pot detection and residual heat indicators.
Lacanche brings a warmer, more traditional feel to stainless steel, particularly when it is paired with brass detailing. This is one of the most popular pairings that we see, with the cool appearance of the stainless softened by the brass control knobs.
As the brass develops over time, it also gives the cooker a slightly more individual finish, while the stainless steel keeps the overall look clean and timeless. The pairing feels particularly suited to the brand's distinctive French styling.
This Cluny model, at one metre wide, is one of Lacanche's best selling range cookers. With a choice of three different hobs and six different oven configurations, the Cluny offers you the choice to select a range cooker that suits your style of cooking perfectly.
The Classic series has been specifically designed for those who love a traditionally styled appliance within their kitchen. You can choose from five smart trims to finish your Lacanche cooker: brass, chrome, chrome matt, nickel and brushed stainless steel.
Fulgor Milano Sofia Professional
The Fulgor Milano Sofia Professional collection takes stainless steel in a distinctly contemporary direction, with clean lines, substantial handles and metal control knobs giving the cooker a purposeful, professional appearance. In stainless steel, the design feels particularly cohesive, allowing the darker glass elements of the hob and oven door to create contrast without overpowering the overall look.
The Sofia also brings plenty of performance behind its streamlined exterior, with the 90cm induction model featuring five cooking zones, including a dual max power zone, alongside functions such as pizza mode and pyrolytic cleaning.
It is a strong choice for kitchens where stainless steel is being used as part of a more modern scheme, combining an understated finish with the more advanced cooking technology expected from Fulgor Milano.
Is stainless steel right for your kitchen?
Stainless steel has remained such a popular range cooker finish because it gives you options.
You can keep things simple with matching stainless trim, introduce more character with brass detailing, lean in the professional look or use the cooker as a contrast within a more traditional kitchen.
Most importantly, it is a finish that allows the range cooker itself to change the character depending on the model you choose.
